DODA/JAMMU : Healthcare services across Jammu and Kashmir face potential disruption as employees serving under the National Health Mission (NHM) announced a 72-hour Union Territory-wide strike starting September 9, citing persistent government inaction over long-pending grievances.The decision was finalized during a virtual conference of the UT-level Joint Coordination Committee of NHM Employees on September 5, which saw participation from both Jammu and Kashmir divisions, alongside frontline personnel from the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) and allied health schemes.

The escalation follows the expiry of a hard deadline set by the employee bodies. Representatives stated that despite a formal ultimatum seeking tangible progress by September 5, administrative channels offered no concrete commitments or satisfactory resolutions.Addressing a press briefing, All Jammu and Kashmir National Health Mission Employees Association (All JKNHMEA) Jammu Division Chief Spokesperson Dr. Hamid Parray underscored that the work stoppage comes as a measure of last resort.NHM personnel have consistently manned the UT's public healthcare infrastructure under arduous conditions. This call for collective action was forced upon us only after exhaustive representations, rounds of dialogue, and formal appeals failed to yield any tangible outcome," Dr. Parray statedUnion representatives from both divisions echoed the sentiment:

Continued Neglect: Divisional President (Jammu) Dr. Vikas Sharma emphasized that the resolution was not taken in haste, but was the inevitable outcome of prolonged administrative apathy toward legitimate workforce concerns.Depleted Patience: Kashmir Division President Muneer Andrabi remarked that while the cadre had consistently prioritized dialogue and shown patience, the absence of policy-level implementation left them with no alternative.Broad Coalition: Musadiq Rafiq Parra, UT President of the NTEP unit, confirmed that staff under tuberculosis elimination and complementary mission programs would fully observe the 72-hour demonstration.

The joint committee directed all district-, block-, and field-level units across the Union Territory to observe the strike peacefully and maintain organizational discipline. Workers were also advised to disregard unverified social media narratives and heed only official committee communiqués.While reiterating its willingness to engage with the UT administration should credible terms for dialogue emerge, the coordination committee maintained that the strike will proceed as scheduled unless substantive measures are enacted immediately.
